Integrated Health and Nutrition Services for Vulnerable Communities
Since February 2026, Deeg-Roor Medical Organization (DMO), with funding support from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), has been implementing an integrated health and nutrition project aimed at improving access to lifesaving maternal, newborn, child health, and nutrition services for vulnerable communities in Berdale District. Through the project, Ahmed Gurey Health Center continues to provide essential maternal and newborn health services, helping mothers access skilled delivery care, postnatal support, newborn immunization, and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) services close to their communities.

A key component of the intervention has been strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers. Under the same SHF allocation, DMO supported the training of skilled midwives in Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) to improve the quality of maternal and newborn care services at the facility.

- Skilled delivery services
- Early initiation of breastfeeding

The integrated health and nutrition project continues to contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality by improving access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare services for vulnerable populations in Berdale District. Through the continued support of SHF, DMO remains committed to strengthening community access to safe, dignified, and lifesaving healthcare services.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), SHF, and WHO, the project also supports the provision of essential medicines, vaccines, and lifesaving maternal and newborn health supplies to improve service delivery at supported health facilities.
