Out patient therapeutic program is admits children under five years with severe
acute malnutrition with complicated diseases like acute respiratory tract
infection, xeropthalmia ;vitamin A deficiency, disease of gastroenteritis such as
worms ,and skin disease like eczema, and scabias and eye disease like
conjunctivitis and oral infection such as stomatits and otits, there are two types
of severe acute malnutrition; kwashiorkor and marasmus ,first the child screens
on the upper arm circumference , if the child’s size of upper arm is
less than 11.5cm and weight for height-2zscore and edema ,moon face
restlessness and irritability loss of hair color they admitted as kwashiorkor
because lack of adequate protein in body can cause children to be kwashiorkor
and children with signs of loss of muscles buttocks and all body weight admits
marasmus ,because lack of adequate amount of carbonhydrate in the body
example of proteins such as; meats, eggs, green beans , fishes and peanuts
and also example of carbonhydrate like sorghum, maize, potato, rice, spaghetti.
There are discharge criteria for out patient therapeutic program ;cured , non
Cured, defaulter for three consecutive weeks, deaths after admitted, transferred
To another out patient therapeutic program or stabilization center if the child
Child are seen severe signs like dehydration sunken eyes unconsciousness
Lathergic difficult breathing convulsion severe anaemia must be blood
Transfusion loss of electrolytes such as water and sodium chloride
