DMO –OTPs

DMO is running at present integrated projects for health and nutrition in Baidoa district. Mean while, the OTPs programme operates currently seven sites of whom six sites are outreach and one fixed site namely (Horseed fixed facility).Horseed fixed site in the town and outreach sites are running day today activities as they provide nutrition prevention and promotion services such nutrition and hygiene education, therapeutic zinc for diarrhea, Deworming, Vitamin A supplementation for children aged 6-59 months; as well as referral of SAM with complication cases and MAM cases also referred to the nearest areas  operating nutrition services in the area. They also providing ready to use therapeutic feeding foods(RUTF) to the beneficiaries after screening for those new and follow cases. During this reporting month, 126 severely malnourished children 6-59 months were admitted into DMO nutrition program sites i.e. fixed facility in the town and outreach sites for the management of severe acute malnutrition in the OTPs in Baidoa and surrounding. For the routine visits to the OTP sites, the caregivers were educated on key messages on management of SAM and proper utilization of RUTFs as foods and medicines for the malnourished children which should not be shared  for normal children at all.In addition to that, a total of 1,405 under five children were screened for this month of whom 783 were girls, while 622 boys, out of 488 were referred to TSFP programmes those fulfill the admissions criteria of Moderate Acute malnutrition, while 589 cases of at risk groups referred to BSFP programmes who are less than 2years old,  in order  to prevent from becoming MAM .
